Why beeswax candles? The benefits of beeswax are not known to many, especially when it comes to candles. Most of us love candles. We love that we can instantly transform an ordinary space into a cosy nook, a luxurious escape, a festive hub or a romantic haven just by lighting a wick.
Apart from creating a certain visual ambience with it’s flickering flame, a candle can also entice our senses by gently throwing a gorgeous scent into the air.
The hidden truth.
But… do we know what we are burning or what we are sending into the air that we breathe? Unfortunately, not all candles are created equal. Many look beautiful and emit a lovely scent but, at the same time, hide a dark secret.
A big percentage of candles on the market are made from paraffin ( a by product of petroleum) which creates highly toxic benzene and toluene when burned. These chemical compounds are known to be a danger to our health.
When is wax not wax?
Soy wax is not naturally wax. It is oil from the soy bean that is turned into wax by the process of hydrogenation. It is also bleached with chlorine. Soy wax candles are a slightly better option to paraffin wax candles, however unless stated as organic, soy wax is a product of genetically modified soy beans. GM soy crops are regularly sprayed with toxic pesticides. These pesticides are harmful to both the soil and the farmer. So, consumers that purchase soy candles are likely to be supporting the production of genetically modified crops. As we know, genetic modification of crops is having a huge impact on our health and environment. Not all soy candles are 100% soy wax, most also contain a small amount of paraffin wax. Even if one is buying a 100% organic soy wax candle, the underlying issue is often in the synthetic fragrance.
The beauty of beeswax.
100% pure organic beeswax candles are the only safe candle available. They offer a soft, honey scent, a bright golden flame and the longest, cleanest burn of all candles. Beeswax candles are natural ionisers. They purify the air of odours, dust, pollen, mildew and other airborne toxins as they flicker away. This reduction in indoor pollutants has been known to reduce allergies and hay fever in many sufferers. Additionally, a beeswax candle will burn for up to three times longer than paraffin wax candles and up to twice as long as soy candles of the same size. Beeswax is the only naturally forming wax on our planet. Why would you burn anything else?
